Description

A woman stands beside a mysterious tidal pool, sounding the traditional conch trumpet. Who does she signal? To what end? Colored pencils on smooth Bristol board.

Well I looked through your whole gallery and I had a hard time deciding which picture to comment on. There has been so much improvement in your rendering skill as well as your coloring technique from the first pieces to these, your later ones. However, I wanted to settle on one, so I finally picked this one. There are several things that impress me about this piece, but the main one is the way you captured the form and shape of the model's arms, both in your linework and in your shading. I also like the clear perspective we see in the shadows, and the hazy purpling of the mountains in the distance. The only thing I would say to add would be a bit more form to the dress. Nothing white is ever just pure flat white (just as nothing black is pure flat black, and nothing blue is pure flat blue and so on). I'd love to see some subtle blue/purple shadows and creamy highlights on that white dress.

Interestingly enough, since my compy is still more or less out of commisson (at least for artwork), and since I have a deadline coming up for a portrait I'm working on, I've actually dug out my own colored pencils and am taking a stab at coloring my picture in a more traditional way. Boy, it has been a while since I worked with colored pencil! Hopefully I will have my picture finished on time and will be able to upload next week.

Keep up the good work! :highfive:
