This is what everyone who treats Aribeth as nothing more than a betrayer fails to understand. When she finally understands what is happening around her, the pain of her actions cuts through her like a rusty chainsaw. To dismiss her as a villain is to completely miss everything that happened in her life up to the point where your PC either kills her or convinces her to surrender for judgment.
